The first state sponsored education here was the National School run by the church, see plaque 3.
Under the later 1870 Act, education became compulsory, albeit it could be part time for youngsters already in work, and School Boards were established to set up and run state schools. The new Cogenhoe school arrived in 1896. It later lost part of its yard for road widening. By the 1960s it was no longer big enough for the rapidly expanding village so the present primary school was built.
It became business premises but in recent years has been superbly restored and converted to five dwellings.
